Correspondence, April-Sept. 1915, between Doughty, who served as the representative of the First Presbyterian Church (Mount Pleasant, Mich.)'s Ladies Aid Society, and various [church] organ manufacturers. Among the organ manufacturers were: M.P. Moller (Hagerstown, Md.), W.W. Kimball Co. (Chicago, Ill.), Austin Organ Co. (Hartford, Ct.), A.B. Felgemaker (Erie, Pa.), Hilgreen, Lane & Co. (Alliance, Ohio), and Hook & Hastings Co. (Kendal Green, Mass.). The Society was planning on buying a new organ for the church.

Doughty was born and lived in the Doughty House in Mount Pleasant (Mich.). He operated his father's dry goods business, attended public schools, Alma College, and the University of Michigan. In 1897 he married Mabel I. Bishop (1871-1959) and together they had three children. He was a member of the Board of Trade, Board of Education, and the Presbyterian Church.
